eMargin

Brief description

eMargin is a simple online program for annotating the contents of text files. Texts can be uploaded directly or through a web link. It is possible to select a word or a larger part of the text for annotation, to which comments (free text) and/or labels (a more formal classification) can be added. Colours can be used to distinguish between various selections. Once an annotation has been added, it can be searched for or filtered on in various ways. eMargin allows the user to directly look up selected words in a number of sources, including the Oxford English Dictionary.

eMargin was developed specifically for collaborative annotation. It allows users to define groups and to manage permissions for group members. Annotations submitted by group members can be supplemented by other group members, depending on which permissions have been set. The author and time of annotation are provided for each annotation.

Note: Although the program allows printing the annotated text and exporting it to an XML file, it is primarily intended to support the annotation process and is less suitable for presenting final results.
