Biografisch Woordenboek van Nederland (Biographical Dictionary of the Netherlands)  
This academic reference book includes short biographies of people who were in any way relevant in the recent or distant past in the Netherlands or in its overseas territories, as well as foreigners who distinguished themselves here and Dutch people who have a reputation abroad.

Het Biografisch Portaal van Nederland (Dutch Biography Portal)  
This portal provides scientifically sound information about leaders and other prominent figures in Dutch history, from the earliest times to the present. The 'Links' heading contains references to other Dutch sites with biographical information (such as BWN, see above) and biographical reference works from other countries.

Digitaal Vrouwenlexicon van Nederland (DVN)  
The DVN provides information about the most remarkable women in the history of the Netherlands and its overseas territories from the earliest times to the present.

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography
The Oxford DNB is the national record of men and women who have shaped British history and culture, worldwide, from the Romans to the 21st century. [Login through SURFconext]

Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon Online (Artists of the World Online)
This database is the world’s most contemporary, reliable and extensive reference work on artists. It contains authoritative, up-to-date biographical information on more than 1.2 million artists. [Login through SURFconext]
