Introduction

Architecture is all around us, from the house you live in to the park you spend an afternoon in. Our spatial environment has been designed over time by people with specific ideas about society. Understanding why and how we live the way we do, is at the core of architecture.

In this course students focus on the history of (Western) architecture by studying the most important buildings, historical backgrounds, theoretical principles and key texts. Students learn to critically reflect on the architectural historical canon, including both Dutch and international examples. Moreover, students learn to further develop their visual analysis skills by analysing buildings and building types.
