  • 1. Projection, as of a chimney-breast, pilaster, or any member or part of a building before a wall or another, e.g. a moulding projecting in front of another moulding. 2. In Classical architecture the breaking out of a length of entablature with two returns, with a column and pilaster, or pair of columns supporting the projection.
